Can I use crampons with winter hiking boots?
It depends on the stiffness of the sole. Most winter hiking boots take classic strap-on alpine crampons or hiking crampons (microspikes) with silicone harnesses for icy trails. Semi-automatic crampons require a heel welt, and automatic crampons require both a heel and a toe welt. Ask us about the specific model.

How much larger should I go?
Usually half a size above your normal size, so there is room for a thick sock and your toes do not hit the front on descents. The safest option is to try the boots with the socks you will wear. But do not go too big: an oversized boot flexes in the wrong places, forms creases on the sides and lets your foot slide inside.

How do I care for winter boots?
After each hike, clean off mud and salt and dry them at room temperature, never on a radiator or next to a stove. You can use a boot dryer. Reproof the uppers regularly with a product such as Nikwax.

Are they suitable for everyday wear in the city?
Yes, especially in snow and slush. Keep in mind that insulated models can feel too warm in heated indoor spaces.
