One day in the Malyovishki part of Rila

We have told you before that we at Extreme Sport love summer tourism in the mountains. Up there, on the high, close to the sky and far away from the city and its fast pace. That is why in the middle of July we planned a one-day hike in Rila together with our friends from Trekking.bg. This time we chose the picturesque and interesting part of Rila - Malyovishki. Dotted by peaks over 2500 m high, mountain lakes, massifs and incredible views. The goal for our day was to reach the peaks Popova Kapa, Kupenite, Lovnitsa, passing through the beautiful lakes - Yonchovo and Scary Lake.

The trip start

In the early Saturday morning our group gathered at the Russian Monument. After checking the necessary equipment on our backpacks, we left for the town of Samokov with our own transport at around 6.00. After about an hour there from the city we took the road to the Malyovitsa Central Police Station, where we leave the cars. Passing through the picturesque villages Madjare and Govedartsi for another thirty minutes we were in the parking lot of the Central Police Station. And there we carefully distributed our luggage and prepared for the long and interesting hike around Rila.

Backpack`s content

Each of us had prepared in his backpack:

  • Thermal underwear
  • Waterproof jacket
  • Fleece jacket
  • T-shirt
  • Gaiters
  • Trekking poles
  • Gloves and hat
  • Headlamp
  • Thermos with tea and food for one day
  • Utensils - metal jug, folding cutlery, etc.

Yonchevo Lake and Scary Lake

From the Malyovitsa Central Primary School we went with the group in the direction of Yonchovo Lake. The path through the squat and the burnt ridge is well known to all of us. An interesting fact about Yonchovo Lake is the presence of trout in it, and the lake is named after the artist from Samokov - Hristo Yonchev - Kriskarets. Passing by Yonchovo Lake, we headed to the Scary Lake with the stone shelter next to it. We rested with the group on the lake. We took out the thermoses and strengthened ourselves with some food. Тhe views around us were magnificent - nearby peaks, the remaining snow patches, the crystal clear water of the lake and the fresh air. The Scary Lake is the largest and highest located in the Malyovishki part of Rila - / 2465 m. /. From here began the climb to Popova Kapa peak.

Peaks - Golyam Kupen and Lovnitsa

We went along the eastern ridge and then along the rocky edge we reached the top / 2704 m. / We continued the ridge traverse and on a difficult and not very safe path we passed Kupenite / Nameless, Small, Medium and Big /. In this difficult terrain, the folding hiking poles have helped us to walk safer. And here again we were convinced that it is necessary to have the right hiking boots. Our group successfully reached the top among the peaks in the Malyovishki part of Rila - Golyam Kupen peak / 2731 m. /. This was the highest point of our hike that day. After a short break at the top we continued along the ridge and cutting the Rock Needles, we reached the last peak of the day - Lovnitsa / 2695 m. /. With it ended our adventures in the high part of the mountain. We rested, took pictures and set off downstairs. We made the return to the CPS through the shelter BAK, second, first terrace and hut Malyovitsa. We reached the CPS in the late afternoon and as it should be such a pleasant day in the mountains, we sat in the tavern Malyovitsa and made an analysis of our transition. Then we got in the cars and immersed ourselves again in city life and our daily tasks.

And here we have again made a pleasant transition with friends in the mountains. And, of course, we share it with you. We will continue to do so. These adventures of ours are always more pleasant and easy with the right equipment - hiking boots, clothes for the high mountains, trekkig poles, gaiters, a backpack and everything you need for a day trip in nature. In the Extreme Sports store we maintain a wide variety of equipment.

And we are sure that we will always find the right one for you. Come and see for yourself!
