From the Bov station to Ivan Vazov's house in the Drangova hamlet, Stara planina

We left one February morning, 8 people and 1 dog accompanied by Evgeni Dinchev from BG Trekking, from the Central railway station in Sofia with the train to Mezdra. We got off at the Bov station in the Iskar gorge.

We went along the black road in the valley, opposite the Treskavets river. We were all wearing hiking boots and carrying small backpacks. At one point we passed a van that I think had been fitted out as a restaurant in the summer but now was closed.

About an hour and a half after, we turned left along a steep path along the blue markings. At the fork going up we got out hiking poles because the trail looked steep and the walking becomes easier with extra support.

After 1 hour we arrived in front of the remains of the houses where grandfather Vazov spent many hours visiting his friend Drangov. The houses are abandoned and neglected... After a year or so, nature will have taken over everything... One house has a padlock. Years ago there was a woman who sat in the house Saturday and Sunday. But there is no one anymore.

On the way back we returned to Bov station. The dog at one point went down into the gully and did not know how to get back up the steep slope to the group. We went back a little so that he could come out on the gentle slope.

There was a lot of mud, and those who weren't wearing gaiters got their pants pretty dirty. Before entering Bov, we washed our hiking boots in a stream.

Vrachanska Skaklya waterfall - the highest non-permanent waterfall in Bulgaria - 141 meters.

While we were waiting for the train, we sat in the Vodopad Skaklya restaurant at the Bov station. We took the train at 16:00 o'clock and got back to Sofia on time around 17:00 o'clock.
