Top tips on how and where to set up a tent

How to set up a tent?

Sleeping outdoors is becoming increasingly popular these days. In a tent, hammock or sleeping bag. Or at sea, in the mountains, forest, dam or campsite? We can do it anytime, anywhere. Of course, this requires some preparation and attention to make our experience enjoyable and fulfilling. Therefore, we at Extreme Sports will share with you some basic rules when choosing a place and setting up a tent.

How to choose the most suitable place for setting up a tent?

The main factors for our choice are the weather conditions, the terrain and the surrounding nature. When setting up a tent for two persons  we must be careful if we do this:

  • On the beach - for strong winds;
  • In the mountains - for many open places and the danger of avalanches;
  • Near a pond - at a sufficient distance from the water;
  • In the plain - for heavy rains and floods;
  • In the forest - for thunderstorms and the danger of breaking branches and falling trees;
  • Next to the campfire - enough distance from it because of the possibility to burn or set fire to the tent.

When choosing the most suitable place, we need to carefully examine the slope and unevenness. Stretching our tent, our head should always be higher than the rest of the body when we lie down. Pebbles, roots and baboons will make our nightmare a nightmare. Last but not least, so that there are no surprises, it is always good to crucify in the light of day. Otherwise we will need a head lamp

How to stretch our tent?

One of the most important things is to always set up your tent at least once before leaving and make sure all its parts are available. Nowadays there are different types and kinds of tents - different constructions, different in layers, with different types of slats, etc. Nevertheless, each of them requires consistency and precision in stretching. Before assembling our outdoor home, it is not a bad idea to lay an extra tent floor . This will further isolate our bodies from the cold ground and will protect the tent floor from injuries and tears.

When preparing the poles for assembly, we make sure that they fit well into each other. And when we hang them or string them through the fabric, do not tear the pockets for them. When setting up the tent, all openings and zippers should be closed and closed. To avoid the entry of animals and insects inside.

For tourism and camping we recommend two-layer tents. The single layer is suitable for accidental sleeping at sea. The two-layer tents consist of two layers. The lower layer is the main bedroom with a mesh layer with a zipper for entrances / entrances. The upper layer is waterproof and through it the vestibules and the entrances / entrances of the tent are formed. An air cushion is formed between the two layers, which is actually the most valuable thing so that there is no moisture in the tent. If you do not stretch the tent properly, both layers will touch in the rain, condensation will form in the tent and it will start dripping. Therefore, we recommend that you carefully inspect the tying of the ropes and whether any folds have formed on the top layer.

And so before we begin. Look carefully at what you have in the tent bag. Each tent set comes with a bag with a number of pegs, tension rails and a repair kit. You know ме we use them all. There is usually a diagram of the stretching steps on the inside of the bag or on an additional instruction sheet. Keep in mind that not all tents are stretched in the same way. Usually the lower layer is stretched and then the waterproof one with the vestibules. But in Husky Flame tents, for example, the top layer is stretched first and then the interior is placed. When we stretch the top layer, we first put the poles in the appropriate pockets. Then stretch the pegs diagonally at the lower four ends, driving them all the way at a slight angle in the opposite direction to the tent. Then, with the other pegs, we usually stretch the top layer with the ropes and entrances. In large Husky tents, the racks and the corresponding pockets for these racks have the same color outline. Thus, everyone easily pitches a huge tent in literally minutes. It is good to ventilate often to avoid accumulating moisture inside, leaving the entrances and windows only on the grid. Again, so that we are not attacked by animals and insects. In already very extreme conditions we can dig ditches around the tent to take the water away from it. Most Husky tents have two entrances. You will appreciate this advantage on hot summer days, as you can make the air flowing.

At the end of our adventure comes the time when we must gather and gather. In the reverse order of assembly, we release all the pegs, clean them and put them in a bag. We remove the rails and fold them. Separate the layers from each other and carefully remove and fold the rails. If possible, we beat the inside of the tent, close all the zippers and the most important thing before folding and storing is to make sure that the tent is dry. So as not to mold until her next crucifixion. We recommend that you clean and dry your tent well before putting it away. If you use it often you can impregnate it additionally against water with detergent.
