Basic styles in rollerskating

When we think of rollerblading, perhaps the first thing that comes to mind is a smiling family enjoying a sunny weekend in the park. And while it's a great way to spend time, rollerblading enthusiasts have long since discovered new horizons for the wheeled shoe.

There are different riding styles of skating

The one we just described is the most common so-called fitness style. What characterizes it is the carefree skating, the pleasure of sports and the movement we get from it. But for some people, this is not enough.

One of the most elegant styles of rollerblading is freestyle slalom. It arranges small polyethylene cones in a row and the skater aims to pass a slalom between them while performing various numbers and figures. If you do not have cones, the following also work:

  • Plastic cups;
  • Bottles;
  • Bowls.

The distance at which the cones are placed varies between 50, 80, 100 and 120 cm, depending entirely on the level of the skater. This type of skating requires high flexibility and coordination in the practitioner for the correct execution of the figures.

Freestyle slalom has become a full-fledged sport, with competitions held every year, attracting competitors and roller skaters from all over the world.

But in every hobby there are people who are ready to take things to extremes.

When rollerbladers come out of the park and rush through the city streets and sidewalks, between cars and pedestrians descending ramps and railings, doing tricks, we are already talking about Aggressive riding style.

This style is very similar to the way skateboarders ride in an urban environment. The practicing Aggressive style is not worried about the bumps and holes that he will encounter in the city. On the contrary, he greets them in order to jump over them effectively for the other eye.

The inline skates needed for this type of skating differ from the classic type. Characteristic of them is that there is a recess in the frame of the wheels, between the front and rear pair of wheels.

It is on this recess that the Aggressive Bladers land when they jump on a curb or railing.

Indoor rollerskating

Driving in the park or city is far from mandatory. There are quite a few styles that require practice in the gym.

  • Jam skating - The main feature of this style is music and dancing to the beat. It is not very common in Bulgaria, but it is known to all of us from retro movies. Brilliant lights and disco music. Inline and quad skates allow the dancer to perform beautiful movements that he would not otherwise be able to perform.
  • When figure skating meets rollerblading, what happens is the Artistic Skate style. It is no coincidence that this style is practiced in a hall - you need excellent flooring for the smooth execution of the combinations. The quad skates used for this type of riding are the well-known ones on 4 wheels, divided into two pairs on the left and on the right. This is in contrast to the rollers used in other styles, in which the wheels are arranged in a straight column.
  • The last style we will mention is - Speed skating. It can be solo or group (relay type), and the goal of the riders is for their skaters to be the first to cross the finish line. The rules are simple - the fastest wins.
